Comunicaciones Actualidad Noticias RESEÑA EN JOURNAL TECHNOLOGY AND CULTURE DE EE.UU. DESTACA IMPACTO ACADÉMICO DEL LIBRO HOW TO DESIGN A REVOLUTION

“With contributions from both local and international researchers, the book skillfully balances accessibility for global readers unfamiliar with Chilean history and fresh, in-depth insights into lesser-known processes in Chile. The thematic scope of the articles compiled in the book is diverse and engaging. Some chapters provide broader context to the period, while others adopt a microhistorical lens to examine various specific design projects and their political significance—from small-scale items, such as spoons for measuring powdered milk, to the pioneering yet unfinished Synco room project, an architectural and electromechanical artifact intended to manage the national economy.”

“Closely aligned with design history, the book shares key concerns with the historiography of science and technology, particularly a critical stance toward center-periphery models in the understanding of global knowledge and production, a sensibility to the material and visual dimensions of these processes, and a refreshing critical engagement with evolving class and gender dynamics.”

“While local research has primarily focused on the role of science and technology in the construction of the nation-state in the nineteenth century and on the implementation of developmentalism in the early twentieth century, more recent episodes—such as those explored in How to Design a Revolution—remain less frequently studied. This adds both value and a sense of exceptionality to this volume. In light of all these attributes, How to Design a Revolution, both as a visual artifact and a work of scholarship, is essential reading for a broad audience interested in the intersections of design, technology, and politics.”

How to Design a (Cybernetic) Revolution: Chileans Remember Salvador Allende’s Techno-Utopian Project”).
